Device Characteristics of EIB for Embedded Control (Field Level)

It is clear that an EIB node or device has to implement (an appropriate subset of) the EIB communication stack presented in the previous section. This is complemented by a multitude of local connectivity and hosting features described below.

A summarised, abstract picture of the architecture of a single node demonstrates how all these elements combine to build an open system concept, which is not bound to any particular hardware, firmware or microprocessor design.

To gain a head start, the interested EIB product developer is encouraged to assess the merits of certified OEM building blocks. A whole spectrum of solutions is available, ranging from fully integrated, general-purpose device nodes, over EIB chip sets, UARTs and transceivers to source code licences.
